About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1936. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo. Pp. [4], 5-255. Frontis. photograph of T. E. Lawrence by Howard Coster. Contains several black & white photographs on glossy stock. Two maps. Index. Bound in navy cloth with gilt lettering stamped on spine. Just a hint of cocked spine. In the dust jacket that shows slight edge-wear; price of 8s. 6d intact on the front flap. First printing of the first edition. Richards was an Oxford school chum of Lawrence; his recollections and views cast Lawrence as a great leader and thinker, rather than the romantic crusader adopted by the public - a view enhanced following his death the year prior to the publication of this book. Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve. O'BRIEN, E097.
