London: William Heinemann, 1940. First edition of Greene's masterpiece. Octavo, original yellow cloth. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket with some toning and light wear to the spine crown. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box made by the Harcourt Bindery. Scarce in the original dust jacket and in this condition. Hailed by John Updike as "Graham Greene's masterpiece." The Power and the Glory was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the hundred best English-language novels since 1923. In 1947, the novel was adapted into a film, The Fugitive, directed by John Ford and starring Henry Fonda as the priest.
Synopsis
Graham Greene (1904–1991) worked as a journalist and critic, and was later employed by the foreign office. His many books include The Third Man , The Comedians and Travels with My Aunt . He is the subject of an acclaimed three-volume biography by Norman Sherry.
