White Bay, Newfoundland : Tromso Enterprises, 1990. 207 pp, 8vo (8 3/8" H). B&w photographs, reproductions, maps. Signed by author at bottom of first page. "This book is written as a special report to the ruling authorities as a commendation of four people who worked personally for many years with Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell. From all indications, it is thought that, without their unprecedented dedication and voluntary contribution, the International Grenfell Association (IGA) might not have been able to contribute in such an effective way to the area, especially in the medical, social and economic fields. The four people are: Mr. Thomas Boyd (b. 1894), Pastor Stanley Hancock, Sr. (b. 1899), Dr. Baxter T. Gillard (b. 1901) and Amelia Lucy Wilcox Gillard (b. 1909)." Interior - some small light areas of old tape/label residue on title page, small bump at bottom corner and bottom edge of approx. first 20 and 40 pages respectively, small bump at corner of the last few pages, otherwise clean and tight with no other ownership marks. Exterior - very light edge wear, a few small edge/corner bumps, light rubbing.. Signed by Author. Second Edition. Soft Cover. Good+.

Tradepaper; 207 pages; pictorial cover depicting an episode from the book; NEW unread, unworn copy, not remaindered, signed by author on first page. Many B & W photographs. Earl Pilgrim has been a soldier with the PPCLI, a game warden and conservationist, and local storyteller. In this book he examines the life and work of Sir Wilfred Grenfell through one episode in his career - his efforts to save a crippled teenage boy, Charley Hancock. "This book sees Sir Wilfred Grenfell through the eyes of the local people. It depicts Grenfell the way he was seen and the esteem in which he was held. He was respected for his scientific and medical knowledge and ability - almost seen as a superhuman, and yet he was also seen by the people as a frail human who could not really cope with the elements of a northern culture as well as the local people." - Chris Decker, Minister of Health, Govt of Newfoundland…
