London : J M Dent & Co, 1905 A very good copy of 6th edition complete in 2 volumes, edited by R Brimley Johnson, and with 12 colour plates by H M Brock. First issued in this form in 1898, the edition proved extremely popular and quickly went through a number of printings. In original decorative cloth bindings with gilt titles to spine and front board. Top page edges gilt. With half titles, showing that they were volumes III and IV of Brimley Johnson's series; colour frontispieces; decorative title pages; preface (volume 1); listing of illustrations; and text with head and tailpieces. All the plates are present as called for and both volumes have the original page marker.Vol I has 191 pp and Vol II has 210 pp. Vol I has slight darkening to the spine and slight pulling to spine ends. Vol II has a small mark to the side of the front board and a couple of light small marks on the back board. Both have slight cocking to spines. Internally Vol I has a couple of small marks in the bottom margin of p 37 and Vol II has small marks to the top margin of p 172 and 173. Contents otherwise bright and clean. There are pencil signatures in both volumes to the verso of the fep.
