About This Item

Minneapolis, MN, U.S.A.: Augsburg Publishing House, 1962. Hard Cover. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Rare book. Collectible. Teenagers will enjoy this exciting novel which picturesquely depicts a young man's search for God's truth in a period of rapid change and progress. 17 year old Tilman von Rothenau, the orphaned son of a country squire, is journeying from Torgau to Mainz where he hopes to learn more of the newly developed trade of printing. En route, he is injured and forced to spend several months recuperating in Wittenberg, a town in which the religious climate at this time is extremely uneasy. In Wittenberg, Tilman finds temporary employment in the print shop of Melchior Klein who is printing many of the manuscripts of Martin Luther, a young monk stirring up the townsfolf with his papers opposing the accepted authority of the Church. Greatly impressed by Luther, Tilman finds himself torn between the religious traditions of his boyhood and the theological reforms advocated by this prominent servant of the Church. 207 pages. Dust jacket 4 outside corner tips are rubbed heavy. 1/4" closed tear on top front corner of spine. Light rubbing on some parts of outside edges with a few scratches on rear cover..
