A first American edition (so stated, with H-B to copyright page) of the first novel in the author's "Second Trilogy", followed by his "Except the Lord", and "Not Honour More". Anglo-Irish Arthur Joyce Lunel Cary (1888-1957) struggled early in his writing career but achieved success with his first trilogy. --- In green tweedy paper-covered boards backed in black cloth with spine titling in gilt. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- A rather worn copy, with general bruising to covers & dulling to spine titling, torn rear endpaper and with ink and tape remnants to endpapers; interior of book remains clean, tightly-bound and unmarked.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (8), 301 pages .
