The author served in the 116th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War; his work on John Gray was first published separately in 1868. Dornbusch I, Ohio 407. Nevins Civil War Books I, p. 78: "This collection of humor, poetry, and other minutiae was designed for popular consumption; historically speaking, it is valueless." Very good.
