About This Item

Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, Doran, 1931. 282 pp, small 8vo (7 5/8" H), red cloth with grey lettering on front board, grey banding on spine, top edge of text block red. 4 pages of b&w photographs. "Almost single-handed Greta Garbo has altered the technique and style of the motion-picture. She is perhaps the greatest screen actress of our generation. In a few years she has risen from a frightened little Swedish girl seeking a tiny part on the Stockholm stage, to a woman whose name is known all over the world, but her personality has remained a closed book, an enigma that no one has been able to penetrate. Portraying sirens, sophisticates, silken women hidden from sunlight and fresh air, she has been none of those things herself. Where did her great ability spring from, what has made her the international figure she is today? In this book you will find the answer." Pages lightly tanned - mostly in the margins, very tiny ink speck on front free endpaper, a few very small areas of faint fading to red dye on top edge of text block with slight migration of the dye into the top margin of the pages, heavy browning to fore-edge and bottom of textblock, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, slight darkening to edges of boards, very light edge wear to boards some faint soiling marks on the rear board. Dust jacket has moderate edge wear/wrinkling - mostly at the top/bottom of the spine and flap-folds, small chips and tears - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, slight darkening to flap-folds and spine, light rubbing/soiling to rear panel, some ink marks/lines marks on the front panel, a crease down the spine, now protected in removable mylar sleeve.. Not Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair.
