The Proceedings of a General Court-Martial Held in the Council-Chamber at Whitehall, On Wednesday the 14th, And Continued by Several Adjournments to Tuesday the 20th of December 1757, Upon the Trial of Lieutenant General Sir John Mordaunt, By Virtue of His Majesty's Warrant, Bearing Date the 3d Day of the Same Month. Published by Authority. London: Printed for A. Millar, 1758. 116 pp. Octavo (8" x 5"). Stab-stitched pamphlet bound into recent cloth. Moderate toning to interior, light soiling to title page. $300. * One of two issues from 1758, priority not established. Mordaunt commanded the British expedition against the French Atlantic port of Rochefort in 1757. Deeming an attempt too risky, he returned without landing, infuriating William Pitt who wanted to satisfy the public with a bold stroke against the French. Despite Pitt's anger, Mordaunt was acquitted. English Short-Title Catalogue T44504.
