Pp. 394, frontispiece portrait, plus 2 portrait plates, title page decoration printed in red, bibliographical note; demy 8vo; blue cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, boards a trifle marked, fore-corners lightly bruised; top edges blue/grey; dust wrappper, soiled and worn, edges torn and chipped, with tape repair on reverse at head of backstrip; book label of David Levine, Sydney, and bookseller's sticker on upper pastedown, a little light foxing; Jonathan Cape, London, 1947. First edition. Cross and Ravenscroft-Hulme B.29 *The editors were Frederick Page, Viola Meynell (Alice's daughter), Olivia Sowerby and Francis Meynell (Alice's son, and the proprietor of the Nonesuch Press). poetry of Alice Meynell (1847-1922) was for a time so popular that she was twice mentioned as a possible Poet Laureate (after the deaths of Tennyson and Alfred Austin).
