Vincent Scully (1920-2017), one of America's most influential architecture historians, was Sterling Professor Emeritus of the History of Art in Architecture at Yale University. His many books included The Shingle Style: Architectural Theory and Design from Richardson to the Origins of Wright; The Earth, the Temple, and the Gods: Greek Sacred Architecture; and American Architecture and Urbanism.
