About This Item

London: Published at the Office / Printed by the Whitefriars Press 1913-1915. (hardcover) [various pagination]. Good. 6 volumes: Vol. CXLIV (January-June, 1913) - Vol. CXLIX (July-December, 1915). Handsome publisher's bound copies. In burgundy cloth boards, punch devices in gilt to spine, volume date in gilt to spine, top board with punch emblem in gilt within black floral border, rear board with same border blindstamped, top and bottom boards with four-rule border to edges. Boards rubbed, with general light shelfwear. Cloth of some volumes ever-so slightly uniformly faded (as common), no longer the deep burgundy which they once were. All edges gilt for 1913-1914; top edge gilt only for 1915. Head of spines bumped, chipping to head of CXLVII. All gutters either with starting or early-signs of starting, boards remain entirely secure. Although the binding may be slightly shaken, the textblock remains clean throughout. Free of underlining, marginalia, or any other such blemishes. Some pages lightly dust-dirtied early and late; with foxing early and late; occasional foxing to fore-edge. Filled with the engravings and sketches for which Punch is famous. A handsome set, from a formative era in the history of Great Britain and the world in general..
