UK: Privately Published, 1947. 1st Edition 1st Impression. Hardcover. Good. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. First, likely only edition. Quarter bound in linen over plain paper-covered boards. 166pp including 93 plate illustrations. Small folio. Boards are heavily rubbed and chipped at edges, rounded on spine ends, stain around upper leading corners, with numerous small, mild marks and indentations. Endpapers a little toned, unevenly. Some pencil annotations on front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, 'For my friends Mr and Mrs Allison, with best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, Cyril Kenney, Dec 1948'. Written in honour of Captain Samuel Sturmy, 'a tryed and trusty sea-man', and author of The Mariner's Magazine, 1669. A biographical account of Sturmy's life, together with a description and history of the magazine he produced and the collection of books he accumulated.
