About the author

Paul Julian Smith is distinguished professor at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. He is the author of nineteen books, including Mexican Screen Fiction: Between Cinema and Television, Amores Perros, and Desire Unlimited: The Cinema of Pedro Almodvar. He was a juror at the Morelia and San Sebastin International Film Festivals and is a columnist at Film Quarterly.
