About This Item

Doubleday, Doran & Co, Garden City, New York 1943 hardcover, 6¼" x 9¼" (no jacket) Book in FAIR condition Over forty b&w photographs (mostly locomotives). This book was published during the second world war, and its emphasis is understandably focused on fast, reliable freight transportation and its motive power. Naturally, the great Hiawatha, speed queen of the Milwaukee, the Twentieth Century Limited, and the crack Pan-American are fully covered. Electricifation, refrigeration, coal hauliers, classification yards, track maintenance and safety devices are all included. A tribute to Pullman is also a feature.
