About the author

About the Author Phillip A. Laplante is Dean of the BCC/NJIT Technology and Engineering Center. He has more than 14 years of experience in designing real-time systems, and was the lead software engineer in the design and implementation of a new generation of inertial measurement systems for the space shuttle. Dr. Laplante has taught courses and consulted in real-time design throughout the United States and Canada. He has published widely on real-time systems, image processing, real-time imaging, and software engineering. Dr. Laplante is the editor of Great Papers in Computer Science and the author and co-author of six other books, including Introduction to Real-Time Imaging and Real-Time Imaging: Theory, Techniques and Applications. He is also co-editor of the journal Real-Time Imaging and the IEEE Press Series on Complex Systems Engineering.
