Lisboa: Biblioteca Nacional, 1922. First edition. Softcover. fair. Octavo. [117], 249 pp. 297 pp. Original printed wrappers. The life and works of Francisco Xavier de Oliveira with and introduction and translations by Aquilino Ribeiro. Philosophy, theology and humanity of Portugal during the 17th century. De Oliveira's letters on religion surrounding his journey as he turns from Catholicism to Protestantism and against the Inquisition. Previous owner's signature inside front wrap on both vols. Front wrap detached from vol.1 with a minor water stain to left bottom corner, minor chipping and creasing to wraps, some tearing and chipping to spines, stiff bindings. Slight age-toning and minor creasing to edges of interior pages.1st 6 pages are opened in vol.1 and the last 4 in vol. 2. and the rest are unopened. Text in Portuguese. Wraps in good to poor, interior in very good to fine condition. Scarce.
