Paris:: Tessari,, c1757-1769.. 15.75 20.25 inches. Single leaf.. Original single leaf engraving, a fine impression, trimmed just outside borders. Right top corner with flat creasing, left top corner with light dampstain, Small repair to verso at outside margin, little affect. Overall, a nice print. Suitable for framing. Illustrates young Russian shepherd playing mandolin for a young couple sitting next to him, a dog and some sheep at their feet. Scarce print, at time of description we locate no copies for sale and only a few citations of reference. Gaillard (ca.1719-1790), French engraver. Le Prince (1734-1781), French painter, star pupil of the great painter Francois Boucher (1703-1770). Le Prince was best known for his graphic portrayal of Russia and its people, he lived in Russia and worked for Catherine the Great. BM: 1917, 1208.1978 (proof). Calcografica: FC124104. BNF: 16877969.
