About This Item
New York: Readymade Press, 2012 First Edition, First Printing. Quarto. 11-1/4 x 8-3/4 inches. ix, 530 pp. Hardcover in pictorial dustjacket. Fine / Fine. Forest green cloth over board with gold stamping of title to front board and particulars to spine. Endpapers in solid blend of yellow ochre and titanium buff (Come on, it's Duchamp!). Dustjacket design, executed by Dana Martin-Strebel, incorporates a photo by Man Ray and elements of two Duchamp works. Interior clean, bright, and crisp. Profusely illustrated throughout in black & white and color. Book condition Fine, apparently unread. No bumping. Tips sharp and firm. Dustjacket shows strip of sunning, green to blue, on back panel along spine edge. Else Fine. No rubbing, chips, tears, or edgewear. From the dustjacket, "Reading about Marcel Duchamp can be hard work, unless the writer has Francis Naumann's ability to leaven imaginative scholarship with clarity, candor, insight, and high spirits. The most influential artist of the last century caught Naumann's attention more than forty years ago, when he saw a reproduction of Duchamp's bicycle wheel mounted on a kitchen stool, and asked himself how this could be art. The question has pursued him ever since, and his consistently fresh approaches to Duchamp's work and Duchamp's life, set down in agile and jargon-free prose, make these collected essays the single most informative book you will find on the endlessly fascinating artist. - Calvin Tomkins."

About Village Lights Bookstore, ABAA/ILAB
Village Lights Bookstore opened as a brick-and-mortar shop in 2008. We are a "mom & pop" business, and we live in the same building. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the American Booksellers Association, and the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association. We offer a modest, but diverse, selection of rare, collectible, and antiquarian items, as well as select higher quality new books. We carefully grade our books in accordance with IOBA Book Condition Definitions (https://www.ioba.org/conditions-definitions), describe them using standard ABAA terminology (https://www.abaa.org/glossary), and painstakingly package them to prevent damage in transit. We value direct communication, so please feel free to call if you have questions about our listings or to confirm that an item is still on hand. And consider visiting us on Main Street in the heart of downtown Madison, Indiana, the country's largest contiguous National Historic Landmark District, and a Designated Indiana Cultural District, on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River.
