1810 1ed History of EGYPT Abdallatif Arabic Egyptian Alchemy Mythology Medicine

Abdallatif al-Baghdadi was a 12th-century Arabic historian who is best known for his account of Egypt. In this book, Abdallatif describes many of the pre-Islamic traditions, architecture, and antiquities found in Egypt which help establish chronological details of Egypt's past. It is also considered to be one of the first works on Egyptology and includes a detailed account of the famine, as well as the famed Egyptian monuments. It also describes animals, plants, social customs, and even notes on alchemy and Egyptian superstitions!

This first French edition was edited by Silvestre de Sacy, who also included texts in Arabic along with his own critical commentary and notes. Interestingly, this edition includes an Egyptian periodical entitled 'État des provinces et des villages de l Égypte' from 1376. A must see!

Thomas Thornton was an 18th-century English hunter known for his sporting tours and outdoor sports. Shortly after the French Revolution in 1802, Thornton ventured to France in hopes of obtaining a large French estate. And while the purchase failed, he was befriended by Napoleon
and gained significant knowledge on the landscape, tradition, culture, and hunting history of France.
In 1806 he published a book on his discovery entitled 'A Sporting Tour Through Various Parts of France'. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
