About This Item
Boston: Lee and Shepard, 1878. First edition. Softcover. Good. 8vo. pamphlet. , stitched as issued. 60pp. Original printed paper wrappers with the inscription, "With the author's compliments," on the top of the title page. Nash wrote this essay in response to "violent" outbreaks of labor unrest but refused to side with either employer or employee. "Capital will not always understand labor and labor cannot understand capital. Labor sins more through ignorance than intention; therefore a court having the confidence of capital and labor, rightly and intelligently administered, would be an efficient means, often, to adjust admicably the disputes and grievances of both. "The First-Prize Essay Awarded by the Boston Young Men's Christian Union. Small chips to front wrapper with library and pricing stamp at the top. A good + copy.
