Atlanta: Franklin-Turner Company, 1908. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair. 12mos. Two volumes. A matched, repaired, and rebound set. Volume I is rebound by the National Library Bindery Company from Atlanta in gray buckram with title on the spine: [1], errata slip, xxii, 763 pages, [2]. Illustrated. Worksheet from the bindery laid in with "Mitchell" name printed in pencil. Repaired volume II: [1], xviii, 723 pages, [1]. Illustrated. Original green cloth covers and spine. Spine is dry, cracked, and chipped and pasted onto newer cloth. Covers are lightly soiled. Hinges are taped. Pages up to preliminary page x and pages between 220 to 300 are dark stained at the top top edges (ink bleed?). Volume 2 inscription on the right front flyleaf and blank front end sheet reads "Ex-Libris Eugene M. Mitchell." Provenance from the estate of the Mitchell family in Atlanta, Georgia. Vol. I rebound by the National Library Bindery of Atlanta with a work sheet and printed Mitchell name in pencil on the page.

Eugene Muse Mitchell (1866-1944) was born in Atlanta in 1866 to Russell Crawford Mitchell and Deborah Margaret Sweet. He graduated from the University of Georgia law school in 1886. He was an Atlanta attorney, co-founder of the Atlanta Historical Society, and father of Stephens Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell author of Gone With the Wind. His wife was Mary Isabel "Maybelle" Stephens.
