The first paperback edition. Signed by the author to the title page. With numerous monochrome illustrations throughout. A detailed guide to the gardens of the Tudor and Stuart periods, recounting how England responded to the new art form of the Renaissance garden. This book looks not only at the horticultural aspect of gardening, but also at the gardens of the palace and great house from the reign of Henry VIII to the Civil War. Sir Roy Strong is a prolific English art historian, writer, broadcaster and landscape designer. He has published numerous books regarding art and design. In the original paperback pictorial binding. Externally, very smart with some light shelf wear to the edges and the occasional small mark to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean.
