Contents: Preface; First Shakespeare Festival at Stratford, Ontario, by Tyrone Guthrie; The Director, by Robertson Davies; The Players, by Robertson Davies. Two plays were presented: Richard III and All's Well That Ends Well, with Alec Guinness taking the roles of Richard III and The King of France. Colour illustrations by Grant Macdonald. 2. Twice Have the Trumpets Sounded, 1954. Contents: Rehearsal - A Study in Rhythm; The Taming of the Shrew; Measure for Measure; Oedipus Rex (these chapters by Robertson Davies); A Long View of the Stratford Festival, by Tyrone Guthrie. James Mason took the parts of Oedipus and of Angelo in 'Measure for Measure'. William Shatner was also part of the cast and is pictured in the role of 'Lucentio'. Colour and b&w illustrations by Grant Macdonald. 3. Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mew'd, 1955. Contents: Julius Caesar; King Oedipus; The Merchant of Venice; A Note on Style in Acting (these chapters by Robertson Davies); Music at the Festival, by Boyd Neel; The Production of 'King Oedipus', by Tyrone Guthrie and Tanya Moiseiwitsch. Colour and b&w costume designs by Tanya Moiseiwitsch. Volume 1 has a gift inscription in ink on the front free endpaper, very light browning to edges of text block, light wrinkling at bottom of spine. Volume 2 has a gift inscription in ink on the front free endpaper, scattered faint tiny foxing marks on front endpapers and edges of text block. Volume 3 has some light browning to top of text block. Dust jackets: Volume 1. has light edge wear including one or two very tiny chips, small tear on front hinge archivally taped; moderate browning on spine, flap-folds and some edges. Volume 2 has light edge wear with some tiny chips, one small edge tear, edge wrinkling at top of front flap, light browning on rear panell and and some edges. Volume 3 has light edge wear, several edge tears - some with ceases, tiny hole on rear flap-fold, very light edge browning, light soiling on rear panel. Dust jackets are protected in mylar sleeves..
