I-XVI; Second Series Vols. I-XLVI (lacking XLIV, 1815), i.e., 61 of 62 volumes. With over 1200 Engravings. 61 vols. 8vo. Bound in full contemporary polished tree calf, spines gilt with green and red leather title labels, stag's head device at foot of spine. Binders label in Vols. X & XI Sold by G. Cawthorn, Bookseller & Binder, Stationer Printer & Publisher, British Library, 132 Strand. Schools supplied on the lowest terms with border reading 'Great allowance to Merchants & Gentlemen going Abroad.' Fine set. Vols. I-XVI; Second Series Vols. I-XLVI (lacking XLIV, 1815), i.e., 61 of 62 volumes. With over 1200 Engravings. 61 vols. 8vo. The Repertory of Arts and Manufactures was originally undertaken in 1794, and was carried on with the "view to collect, record and bring to public notice the useful inventions of all nations." In its various forms and series it ran from 1794 to 1862. "A patent journal, in which specifications and illustrations of patents were frequently commented upon editorially." - Ferguson, Bib. of Hist. of Technology, p. 160.

The finely executed binding is near uniform, with the volumes numbered sequentially, and at the foot of each is a distinctive heraldic device, "a stag's head couped wreathed, between the attires the sun in splendour" (unlike the Devonshire arms of three stags heads caboshed, the crest flanked by stags rampant). The crest on the bindings is identified by the British Armorial Bindings database as belong to James Hulkes (1769-1821), M.P. for Rochester in Kent; the same arms were also used by the Hulse family.
