HarperCollins, London, 2000. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Inscribed by Author(s). Reprint - this copy inscribed by the author on the half-title in a rather shaky hand and dated the year of publication. 8vo. 219pp. Black boards lettered in gold at the spine. Illustrated with three maps and fifty-four photographs by the author. Paperstock a little tanned, else a fine copy in lightly rubbed and fractionally dust marked non-price-clipped dust wrapper. A scarce inscribed re-issue of Thesiger's second book, an account of the eight years the author spent living with the indigenous people of the marshlands of southern Iraq. Sadly, this re-issue omits about half of Thesiger's superb photographs which appeared in the original 1964 edition..

Into the wild: Journey into the world of Peter Beard (1938-2020) Photographer, collector, diarist, and writer of books Peter Beard has fashioned his life into a work of art; the illustrated diaries he kept from a young age evolved into a serious career as an artist and earned him a central position in the international art world. He was painted by Francis Bacon and painted on by Salvador Dalí, he made diaries with Andy Warhol and toured with Truman Capote and the Rolling Stones—all of whom are brought to life, literally and figuratively, in his work. As a fashion photographer, he took Vogue stars like Veruschka to Africa and brought new ones—most notably Iman—back to the U.S. with him.
After spending time in Kenya and striking up a friendship with the author Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen) in the early 1960s, Beard bought a piece of land near hers. He witnessed the dawn of… Read More

Bound in brown half-leather over marbled boards, title in gilt within a red title piece. The first edition of the author's first book. William Wilson (1772-1849) inherited a substantial sum from an uncle, and decided to indulge his passion for travel. He travelled throughout Europe and The Middle East and wrote a series of books.
