Blue coloured textured cloth covered boards with gilt illustration to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. A carefully revised second edition of a work that was first published in circa 1870, ( this preface is dated January 1873). An early book on birds and reptiles and their common ancestry and how they diverged using the radical theory put forth by Charles Darwin.
