About This Item
New York, NY: Time Incorporated, 1962. Reprint . Soft cover. Near Fine/None as Issued. BRAND NEW Copy w/miniscule loss to lower front corner. First published 1941; this is a 1962 reprint. Twice-winner of the Pulitzer Prize (1941 for Reveille & 1959 for In the Days of MvKinley), Margaret Leech (1893 - 1974) was also known as Margaret Pulitzer --- wife of publisher of New York World, Ralph Pultizer and daughter-in-law of Joseph Pultizer who established the prestigious prize. The book, very well reasearched and written, is an account of Washington, D.C. during the Civil War --- transformation of a sleepy a capital to a headquarters of war that "bumbled from despair to despair" before pulling itself together for the ultimate effort. Fine copy.
