The Wizard, Haggard, H. Rider: Longman's Green 1st Edition, 1896, London. A tale of Africa. Used. Very Good/ No dust jacket is included. Red Boards with gold titling on spine. Titling is still nice. Summary: "The novel is placed in the imperialist literature of 19th-century England. Just like many of his other works, this novel is inspired by H. Rider Haggard's experiences of South Africa and British colonialism. The character Noma is meant to be representative of the theme of female authority and feminine behavior." A scarce title.

New York: Pantheon, (1962). First U.S. edition / First printing. Red cloth. Fine in price-clipped jacket about fine. The author's first novel, and most famous work. This is a bright sparkling copy. The jacket is on a heavy stock with a thick varnish. Though price clipped, it is not to be confused with the lighter uncoated book club issue. Gunter Grass was the Winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize for Literature.

12 mo. (7 x 4 1/2 inches) Glasgow, 1700. First Edition. (viii) 112 pages. Good condition: early nineteenth century half calf, marbled boards, considerable wear to hinges (front hinge split, but holding), title in gilt on spine.

Walter Herries (or Harris) was a pamphleteer who participated in the first Darien "adventure." Upon his return to England, he was offered inducements by English politicians to write a book that would ruin the reputation of the members of the Darien Company. His book was "Declared by a royal proclamation to be a 'false, scandalous, and traitorous libel'."

This book, attributed to Ridpath, is an answer to Herries's book, and an attack on English politicians. Ridpath was a Scottish journalist who wrote and supported Whig interests against the Tories.
