Quarto, xvi, 549 pages with numerous illustrations by the author plus 40 plates (28 in colour, by Franck Taylor Bowers) and colour endpaper maps. Gilt-decorated cloth; front top corner bumped (with slight associated creases to associated leaves); extremities a little flecked; spine lightly sunned; top edge slightly foxed and marked; a very good copy with the dustwrapper chipped, torn with minor loss (most noticeably to part of the title on the front panel). With Noel Lothian's name-plate on the front pastedown, and his ink ownership signature at the top corner of the front flyleaf.
