About This Item
New Haven: Yale University Press, 1942. Hardcover. Small 4to. Dark blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration, dust jacket. x, 386pp. Much music notation; errata slip tipped in. Fine/near fine. Faint spine sunning to spine (only) of otherwise bright and crisp jacket. Superlative, bright and tight first edition of this (to cite jacket front panel) "new theory of Old English metric, with special reference to Beowulf...." From the collection of Frank S. Hanlin (1924-82, bibliographer and University of Iowa special collections director), with his 1950 ownership signature on front pastedown -- and on tipped-in errata slip he blue-pencils in a missed error at bottom in his neat miniscule hand! One would be hard pressed to find a finer condition copy than this beauty.
