Book Condition: Very Good +; shelfwear to head, tail, and tips; glue overflow from publishing in rear gutter. DJ: Very Good; chipping to head, tail, and upper tips; toning to front panel. Blue cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine; embossed title on front board. Maps as endpapers. Tinted textblock top. 433 pp 8vo. Richard was a prolific letter writer to his parents during all of his travels. His letters were long and full; sometimes just brief jottings, and sometime long letters written bit by bit throughout the day. Following his death sailing the Sea Dragon his parents debated over what to do with the letters that were a complete record of his life. Written with no thought of publication, they account for nearly every week of his career, from the day he entered Princeton in 1917 until the day he set sail in the ill-fated Sea Dragon. A clean very presentable copy.
