Philadelphia: John C. Winston, 1928. 106 pp, 8 1/4" H. Blue cloth with dark blue lettering on spine and front board, dark blue & orange decoration on front board. Pictorial endpapers, color frontispiece and 13 b&w illustrations (all present). Two of Washington Irving's most beloved stories, complete with an introduction and a glossary explaining some of the names, words and phrases (e.g. "Major Andre", "olykoek" and "by hook and by crook"), that Irving uses. Thoreau Macdonald bookplate, depicting a squirrel reading a book, on verso of front free endpaper - no ownership name filled in. Moderate to heavy browning to endpapers, several air bubbles under rear pastedown, moderate browning to pages, 1" edge tear to page leaf 95/96 - archivally taped, heavy browning to edges of text block, slight twist to spine, moderate browning to colour faded spine, light browning to edges of boards, light edge wear, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine..
