About This Item

(Subject: Political & Biographies - General) Taken prisoner in 1942 in Singapore, the author was one of the few survivors of the Sonkurai camp on the Siam railway. He kept a diary which is the basis for this memoir, and which amounts to a meditation on the contradictory code of behaviour of the Japanese who kept him prisoner in such appalling conditions. His second journey up the Kwai took him beyond Sonkurai to the Three Pagodas Pass and into Burma with the guerrillas. In 1958, Stewart was David Lean's technical adviser during the shooting of Bridge On The River Kwai. (Published: 1988) (Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing) (ISBN: 0747502978) (Pagination: 175pp, map, illustrations) (Condition: Good in d/w) UL-XXXXXX
