His attempt to collect all the "historical or poetical remains" of Robin Hood was so sufficiently thorough that very little has been subsequently discovered (DNB). The Advertisement following the title page observes that the author "continued from time to time to make additions to his own copy, from which the present edition has been carefully printed.
