Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1902. First Edition. First printing. Inscribed by the author on flyleaf: "T. Jefferson Coolidge / from his nephew / William Lawrence," dated November 26, 1902. Small octavo (20cm); red cloth hardcover, decoratively titled in gilt on spine and front cover; x,238pp; frontispiece portrait and four inserted leaves of photographic plates (halftones). Gentle fading to cloth on spine, else a tight, Near Fine copy. Biography of Roger Wolcott (1847-1900), the prominent Boston lawyer and businessman and 36th Governor of Massachusetts (1893-1897). The recipient of this volume, Thomas Jefferson Coolidge, was a great grandson of Thomas Jefferson and the last American plenipotentiary to France, appointed by President W.H. Harrison in 1892.
