First published in 1833, this poem is a paradigm of July Monarchy romanticism, chronicling the disgrace that befalls a son of the bourgeoisie. Frontispice dessine par O.D.V. Guillonnet, grave a l'eau-forte par E. Pennequin. Ornements decoratifs de Leon Lebegue. Octavo. In a three-quarter burgundy morocco over marbled paper binding by Flammarion, with decorative gilt stamping, four raised bands, and marbled endpapers. The original wrappers are bound in. Period bookplate to the front pastedown. Light rubbing to the extremities; otherwise very good.
