About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Doubleday, 1976. Book Club Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Epic African American family saga begins in eighteenth-century Africa, where young Kunta Kinte is abducted then brought to Maryland and sold into slavery. Book Club Edition. No writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Spine is tight and crisp. Boards are flat and true, and the corners are square. Dust jacket is not price-clipped but does show some signs of wear including some small (1/2") tears along the edges. There is also a 1-1/2" area of what appears to be sticker residue on the front endpaper. Overall a nice, clean copy of this classic novel. This collectible, near fine, first edition/first printing copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover.

Synopsis

Tracing his ancestry through six generations - slaves and freedmen, farmers and blacksmiths, lawyers and architects - back to Africa, Alex Haley discovered a sixteen-year-old youth, Kunta Kinte. It was this young man, who had been torn from his homeland and in torment and anguish brought to the slave markets of the New World, who held the key to Haley's deep and distant past. Originally published: Garden City, N.Y. : Doubleday, 1976.
