London: Roger Norton, 1674. Fine Binding. Very Good Indeed. 7" by 4.5". None. A scarce early edition of Jeremy Taylor's noted devotional work. The tenth edition of this work. Estc reference no: R219160 and R219151. Collated, this copy has been bound without the additional engraved title page. Containing 'Holy Living' and 'Holy Dying' as called for. With a separate title page and pagination for 'Holy Dying'. These two devotional works were first published in 1650 and 1651. 'Holy Living' instructs the reader on how to live a virtuous life and 'Holy Dying' instructs the reader in preparing for a blessed death. An important work which looks at practical morality during the seventeenth century. With the bookplate to the front pastedown of E Wyatt Edgell, of Milton Place Surrey. Book label to the recto of front endpaper, L J Lloyd. This edition also contains prayers containing the whole duty of a Christian. The two works Scarce to have such an early edition of this work in a lovely condition. An influential work, which was greatly admired by the founder of Methodism, John Wesley. In a full straight grained morocco binding. Externally, very smart. Light rubbing to the joints and raised bands. Bookplate to the front pastedown, E Wyatt Edgell. Book label to the front endpaper 'L J Lloyd'. Internally, firmly bound. D1 has been hand-stitched from the fore-margin to the centre of the page. Small tape repair to the bottom of this leaf. Occasional page repairs to the fore-margins. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Very Good Indeed
