Description

Bristol: J. W. Arrowsmith, n.d. (1898). 1st. hardback. First edition, no d/j, green boards (some minute white spotting) with gilt pressed titling on cover and spine (some fading and rubbing on spine); text block firm, untrimmed pages unmarked and clean; some tanning on endpapers. Owner's pencilled signature on ffep.. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). Anthony Hope Hawkins (1863-1933), known by his given names, is most known for his Ruritanian triology, of which Rupert of Hentzau is the third. The first two are: The Heart of Princess Osra (1896); The Prisoner of Zenda: three months in the life of an English gentleman (1894). With 13 titles by the author listed to half-title page verso, the last of which being 'Simon Dale' (1898), published the same year as this.
