New York: Charles Scribner's Sons; 1944; Later Edition [6x9"]; Blue cloth binding with gold debossed lettering on front and spine and illustration of Virginia City, Nevada Territory, birds eye view and notable buildings on front and back endpapers; Cream dust jacket with black and red lettering and illustrations on cover and spine; [2], xii, 407 pp., 25 black/white illustrations including frontispiece; Dust jacket minimal soiling and shelf wear at edges; Overall condition is Near fine. The Comstock Lode on Mt. Davidson near Virginia City, Nevada, was the first major silver discovery in the late 1850's. This discovery created a Utah Territory "Silver Rush" similar to the 1849 California Gold Rush.
