Sagebrush Surgeon by Florence Crannell Means - 1955

First hardcover edition, published by Friendship Press, 1955. No dust jacket. Florence Crannell Means was a writer of children's and 'Young Adult' fiction. Her novel set in a Japanese internment camp, 'The Moved-Outers', received a Newberry Medal Honor Award in 1946. 'Sagebrush Surgeon' is about a doctor working in the Navajo Nation of the Southwest United States. 166 pages, 5-3/4" X 8- 1/2". Boards have two horizontal bands, one of a rust-red color at the top half, the lower half being a darker sienna brown color.Author and title imprinted in gold on both the spine and front board. No edge wear to the boards, all lettering is crisp and not worn or rubbed. Boards are flat, and the corners are not bumped. There is a slight bump at the head of the spine, causing a slight crease mark. Formerly owned by a church, the address of which is written in blue pen on the first flyleaf. No further writing besides that though. Binding is somewhat cracked at the title page. It opens easily to that page, though the binding is tight and all pages are intact and tight. A few dots of age tanning on the back paste-down and last flyleaf pages in the gutter. Attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
