O'H Cosgrave II of San Francisco California street scene with cable cars in late 1800's, red, green and black lettering on front and spine, pen and ink illustration of Oscar Lewis on back cover; xi, 291 pp., 16 images and illustrations; Minor shelf wear to dust jacket on edges and corners, spine slightly darken with wear to top and bottom, some age toning to back with closed tear. Oscar Lewis (1893-1992) was a writer on the history of the American West and California and major figure in San Francisco and the Book Club of California. This book is edited by Lewis from first hand accounts, with his notes and commentary, on the growth of San Francisco from the founding in 1776 in Yerba Buena cove as a remote outpost of Spain, the take over by Americans and the impact of the Gold Rush exponential growth to the destruction in the 1906 Earthquake.
