Description

Anne Marriott (1913-1997) was a Canadian modernist poet. She was best known for her long poem The Wind Our Enemy, which was published in 1939. This work was based on her experiences living in Saskatchewan during the Great Depression, under drought conditions. This poem inspired an entire genre that came to be known as "Canadian documentary poetry." She would go on to win the Governor-General's Award for Poetry in 1942 for her chap-book Calling Adventures! Sandstone and other poems was her best known collection, and was published in 1945. It includes a number of poems written in the preceding five years, including The Wind Our Enemy. This volume is in Near Fine condition with a dust jacket in very good condition. There is staining to the dust jacket and some slight wear to the top of the spine of the dust jacket. The book is inscribed by Anne Marriott, "To teh McCulloughs" and dated August, 1945 in Ottawa.
