New York - London: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1940. Hardcover. Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. late 1940's edition, Bound in red cloth, black lettering. Some staining on boards, and wrapped in a dust jacket. Some edge tears and staining on spine and front panel and back panel of jacket. Red bled through on upper front panel of jacket from front board. Previous owner stamped his name on bottom left edge of dust jacket, inner front flap, first free end paper of book, otherwise good. Pages clean and tight.
Synopsis
The Scarlet Pimpernel is a classic play and adventure novel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy, set during the Reign of Terror following the start of the French Revolution. The story is a precursor to the "disguised superhero" tales such as Zorro or Batman. The play was produced and adapted by Julia Neilson and Fred Terry. It first opened on 15 October 1903 at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal; it was not a success.
