Terre Haute, Indiana: Science-Fiction Studies, 1975. Soft cover. Very Good. 8vo. Staple-bound wraps. Two consecutive volumes of the journal Science-Fiction Studies: #7 = Volume 2, Part 3, November 1975; #8 = Volume 3, Part 1, March 1976. Both volumes 100pp. Of particular interest to collectors of Ursula K. Le Guin. Volume #7, "The Science Fiction of Ursula K. Le Guin," contains nearly a dozen critical reflections on Le Guin's work, including contributions from Ian Watson, Darko Suvin, and Fredric Jameson. Also included is the first print appearance of Le Guin's brief but fiercely argued essay "American SF and the Other," in which she attacks the latent sexism and racism of much science fiction: "SF has either totally ignored women, or presented them as squeaking dolls subject to instant rape by monsters." Volume #8 contains Le Guin's "A Response to the Le Guin Issue," as well as a brief note in which she defends "American SF and the Other" against a rather cranky response from Alex Eistenstein, also included. Both volumes very good (+), with toning to wraps and light edgewear.
