Yellow boards and spine with black lettering, red bands, and Spanish seal. 194 pp. Four centuries after Columbus, Isabella II, sent a scientific expedition to that part of the New World still ruled by Spain. Seven naturalists and a photographer made up the Scientific Commission of the Pacific 1862-66. Their mission was to collect specimens of plants and animals for iberian museums and universities sending back 82000 items of American natural history. This is the first account of the expedition to be printed in English. A clean pristine copy.
