Pp. xxiv, 443; pp. xiv, (i), 376; 2 engraved frontispieces (portraits), 8 folding maps, including one in color, 4 folding panorama, numerous plates, 18 in color (some from Wilson's watercolors), 8 photogravures, 100+ other illustrations. Publishers original dark blue cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and with gilt panel lines, lg thick 8vo. This set documents the tragic story with considerable detail of the second expedition to reach the South Pole, arriving a month after Amundsen, but perishing before completing their return trip to base camp.
