Octavo; pp; xxii, 414, with index; illustrated; portrait frontispiece and twenty seven black and white plates and photographs and numerous in text illustrations, finally five folding maps at rear; decorated cream cloth lettered in gilt;. a lovely copy of this classic of mountaineering! Whymper completed the first successful ascent of the Matterhorn. This book covers the period 1860-1869, and relates many of his successful ascents.
