About This Item
Chicago: Reilly & Britton Co, 1911. First Edition (Binding Variant "A"). Hardcover. Good. John R. Neill. Green cloth boards. First Edition and the "A" binding variant of Baum's first attempt to create another fairyland after Oz, this one called "Trot'. 9 1/4 in. x 7 in. 12 color plates.
Shelfwear, and rubbing to extremities. Rubbing and fading to (textured) front paste-on, which depicts three faces within a mirror, upon a gilt background. Hinges tender but holding just fine. All first edition points of issue are present. The two first-edition misprints wherein several lines were transposed (last two lines on pp. 95 and lines 14 & 15 on pp. 105 respectively) are present ; even if so, for collectibility purposes, these should not be considered as true points of issue (Bienvenue 245).
A very respectable and relatively robust copy. The Sea Fairies, long with its sequel, Sky Island, suffered 40% fewer sales and eventually Baum not only returned to OZ, but brought several of the more memorable characters from his "Trot" series, along with him.
